Join the International African American Museum (IAAM) for from nothing, Something: an evening of makers, memory, & art: a celebration of creativity, legacy, and transformation inspired by the exhibition middle of somewhere: art and legacy of Black southern makers. This special program honors generations of Black makers whose innovation, skill, and artistry shaped the cultural and material landscape of the South. Through dialogue, performance, and live creative expression, we reflect on how sweetgrass basketry, family quilts, David Drake’s pottery, contemporary ceramics, the ironwork of Philip and Carlton Simmons, and handcrafted furniture embody both beauty and utility.
