This conversation will explore the intersection of design, preservation, and memory in African American history.

As Walter Hood presents his new book, “Memorial to our Ancestor: The Ancestral Gardens at the IAAM,” the discussion will expand beyond the creation of the African Ancestral Memorial Garden to broader themes of how architecture and engineering can shape spaces that honor, reinterpret, and preserve African American legacies.
