Volunteer: The Politics of Forgiveness Symposium

Forgiveness is often presented as a personal virtue or spiritual mandate—but when viewed through the lens of history, trauma, and social justice, it becomes clear that forgiveness is also deeply political. This half-day symposium brings together faith leaders, scholars, and community voices to examine how forgiveness is shaped by power, identity, and public expectation.

Volunteer: Jazz in the Garden

Jazz in the Garden is a family-friendly program that invites guests of all ages to enjoy the vibrant world of jazz in an engaging and interactive setting. The program features live music, hands-on workshops, and cultural experiences designed to connect the community with the rich traditions of jazz. Whether you’re a longtime jazz fan or discovering it for the first time, Jazz in the Garden offers a welcoming and fun experience for the whole family.

This year, the program will focus on the Jenkins Orphanage Band and its legacy in Charleston: supporting children through the arts and teaching leadership skills to African-American orphaned children. Therefore, this program will host live-painting with musicians as models and Jeopardy, leading up to a jazz show performed at the end of the day. With a focus on cultural heritage and musical exploration, Jazz in the Garden promises to be an inspiring celebration of music, history, and community.

Program Needs: Assist with setup and breakdown of chairs in the West Yard, assist with setup and breakdown of activity stations, program facilitation, assist with checking in guests, and guiding them to the appropriate space.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Cravens Foundation.
